Scott has earned his reputation as one of the most successful high school volleyball coaches in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and Maryland, in addition to being a standout player at the high school, juniors club, collegiate levels and as an All-American club player.
During Scott's tenure as the head coach of the Magruder High School varsity girls program, the Colonels have posted 17 consecutive winning seasons, won 10 county titles, 3 regional championships and appeared twice in the state title match. Under Coach Zanni's guidance, 26 Magruder players earned All-County honors and two were named Player-of-the-Year. Additionally, 13 players have earned All-Met honors and 24 players have continued their careers to compete at the intercollegiate level.
Scott has competed in eight USAV National Men's Championships, and in 2002 his Maryland Alumni/Nike team finished as national runner-up. Scott was named a 1st team All-American at the 1998 National Championships. Scott was a four year player and senior captain for the University of Maryland's outstanding men's teams 1989-92. His high school team won the 1987 NY State Championship and three regional titles. He captained his Pace Bootlegger 18U team to a silver medal at the AAU National Championships in 1988.
Coach Zanni was inducted into the Penfield High School Hall of Fame in 1998. Scott earned his degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Maryland, College Park.
